Welcome to Capital Account. Minutes are out from the Federal Reserve's latest open market committee meeting, which means everyone is looking for what the Fed will do next in order to manipulate rates and thus economic reality. But what are the consequences of this manipulation? Jim Rickards, author of the bestselling book Currency Wars, is here to talk about them. And it's world debt day in the UK, and a number of other countries -- it's a campaign demanding an end to developing world debt. But how about demanding an end to the developed world's debt? Is that what these campaigns should be calling for, as the US gears up for another debt ceiling showdown? And as more than one-point-two billion euros fly out of Greek banks at the start of this work week alone, we wonder aloud how much longer the ECB will continue to hold the roof while Greeks sprint for the exits? And speaking of sprinting for the exits of debt, check out who may be standing in front of the doorway. ...

The Three Ways 'Old Money' Holds on to Its Riches

James Rickards is a hedge fund manager in New York City and the author of Currency Wars: The Making of the Next Global Crisis from Portfolio/Penguin. Follow him on Twitter: @JamesGRickards While America claims to be a class-free society, the opposite often seems to be the case. Americans are obsessed with social status in all its forms whether based on celebrity, artistic or athletic accomplishment, or just plain money. Although royalty is not legal in America, our economic royalty including Bill Gates and Warren Buffett are as highly regarded as any English duke or earl. When it comes to status, we don't look just at the size of one's bank account, we make distinctions based on the nexus of money and social standing. This leads to contrasts such as "old money" and "new money" with the former connoting generations of life on country estates and Ivy League credentials while the latter is something flashier. The Astor family have been wealthy for over 200 ...

Peter Schiff Interviews Currency Wars Author James Rickards

HIGHLIGHTS: Both gentlemen agree that world is witnessing a "currency war" - competitive devaluation of currencies to steal export share. Schiff argues that the only way to win the game is not to play. Rickards says the euro is likely to come out strongest. Rickards draws attention to the International Economic Emergency Powers Act, a current US law that would give the US president authoritarian control of the economy in case of an extreme collapse. Schiff thinks such a disorderly collapse is on the horizon. Schiff thinks the US is unlikely to return to a gold standard in the near future, while Rickards thinks it is too effective a solution to be overlooked - even by Keynesians. Both are bullish on gold as an investment. Rickards was tapped to teach the Dept. of Defense how to wage war using monetary policy, but doesn't think current US policies are meant to deliberately undermine foreign governments. Both gentlemen agree that the best solution continues to ...

The fact that we, meaning the United States, are on a path to a war with Iran is very clear at this point. It does seem the countdown has begun and it’s coming to a head sooner rather than later.” Jim Rickards continues: “Things are moving very quickly. General Martin Dempsey, who is the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff ...

Jim Rickards - US to go to War with Iran, Oil & Gold to Spike

With investors concerned about the recent plunge in gold and silver and questions about what is going to happen with Iran and the Straits of Hormuz, today King World News interviewed KWN resident expert Jim Rickards. Rickards has gained international recognition for his deadly accurate predictions regarding moves by central planners. Rickards let KWN know that the US is headed to war with Iran: “Yeah, it’s very serious, Eric, actually grave. The big thing to get right in this case is that Iran will not be allowed to have a nuclear weapon, period. That’s just not going to happen. Now we know they (Iran & its allies) are pushing towards it and so there is going to be a train wreck.” Jim Rickards continues: “The Obama administration has pursued diplomacy very vigorously. My view is it has failed. (The other possibility) would be a regime change. I say the war has already begun. There’s a lot of sabotage, there have been assassinations, strange things blowing up, rebellio...
